Your hosts Dan and Vanessa will make sure that your visit to North End Crossing Barn & Bed is a friendly and fascinating walk back into a simpler time. Despite the conveniences of modern sanitation and electricity, you will have a chance to learn and live (if only for a short time) in a more peaceful life where people were intimately linked to their land and livestock.
The early pioneers, like Dan and Vanessa will demonstrate, relied on their home-craft skills to grow their food, raise their children and provide for their future. As the Dan and Vanessa’s guest you can choose to participate in the daily tasks of pioneer life or use this time for solitude, rest and relaxation. You are treated to true frontier hospitality, where no one was ever a stranger and no one refused to help his neighbor.
Dan and Vanessa run North End Crossing as part of their dream to offer a true glimpse into our pioneer past. The restoration work on the three houses, along with all the outbuildings, is being done by the innkeepers themselves with help from friends and family.
Both Dan and Vanessa grew up in Eastern Oregon and have two grown children with children of their own. Nathan, the oldest, attends college, while wife Sarah stays home with their three children– Daniel 4, Rilee Ann 2 and Emily newborn as of May 8, 2007. Nathan is also in the Oregon National Guard MP unit out of Milton-Freewater. Nickie is stationed in San Diego aboard the USS Tarawa with daughter Morgan 2. Nickie and Nathan and their families return at times to pound a nail or two, help with the garden or sit and relax in the quiet that is the ghost town of Flora.
In Flora and its surrounding area, you find the one of the great spots in Oregon accented with magnificent vistas and flavored with fresh air, clean water and great experiences. Your visit to North End Crossing Barn & Bed will give you a true taste of the old west and a romantic glimpse into why our ancestors settled these far off regions.
